Accurate and rapid preliminary design and cost estimating for wastewater treatment plant construction projects are a worldwide priority. CapdetWorks is a preliminary design and costing program that eliminates the need for spreadsheet-based design algorithms that can be relatively inflexible and are often time-consuming to maintain.

The activated sludge design algorithms in CapdetWorks are based on the concepts of solids retention time and influent fractionation, and are consistent with published activated sludge dynamic models such as ASM1 and the algorithms published in Metcalf and Eddy (Wastewater Engineering: Treatment and Reuse, 4th Edition), the Water Research Commission (Theory, Design and Operation of Biological Nutrient Removal Activated Sludge, 1984), and Wentzel et al. (Biological excess phosphorus removal – steady state process design, 1990).

CapdetWorks uses a unit costing approach with an extensive costing database that accounts for the effects of inflation using cost indices. Our unit costs are carefully researched based on discussions with manufacturers, suppliers, and consultants.

Completely integrated within the CSI Bridge design package is the power of the SAPFire analysis engine, including staged construction, creep and shrinkage analysis, cable tensioning to target forces, camber and shape finding, geometric nonlinearity (P-delta and large displacements), material nonlinearity (superstructure, bearings, substructure and soil supports), buckling and static and dynamic analysis. All of these apply to a single comprehensive model. In addition, AASHTO LRFD design is included with automated load combinations, superstructure design and the latest seismic design.

Variograms represent the grade continuity within your deposit and are a key input to the kriging process. Supervisor’s easy to use variogram analysis is interactive, allowing the user to view and model variograms for all directions at once and view them in 3D.

Optimise block size and estimation parameters with an interactive and simple to use KNA interface to ensure a better quality estimate and reduce conditional bias (oversmoothing). KNA tests various block sizes, number of samples, search parameters and discretisation to ensure conditional bias is minimised.

Ensure the accuracy of your estimate against the input data in a fraction of the time and test the theoretical grade tonnage curve using global change of support. Model validation generates grade trend plots, histograms, log probability plots, statistics and global change of support to assess the quality of an estimate.

Determine the optimal drill hole spacing for your deposit by creating various theoretical drilling patterns and generating statistics for kriging efficiency and slope of regression. These statistics can then be compared for various drilling patterns and search parameters to determine which give the optimal results.

Test your variograms before running your estimate by using Supervisor’s cross validation module. This is done by comparing the ‘true’ sample grade with the estimated grade at each sample point and generating a scatterplot and associated statistics for analysis.
